Orange County Diocese no longer Pro-life supporter  ???

Fr. Martin asked me to call Georgeann Lovett ( gmlovett@ socal.rr.com ) at the Diocese and ask about the Right to Life booth and the materials that you want to have on display.  She said she felt the booth was inappropriate for the event all together and since there are not other ministries there the Right to Life Booth should not be allowed to be present either.  She feels that a festival is not a teaching opportunity and should not be used as one.  She thinks it should be a "fun event" and nothing more.  That being said, when I told Fr. Martin what Georgeann said he did not feel comfortable taking the booth away since we already promised it to you.  Since Georgeann said that if we decided to permit the booth anyway any and all info and hand outs needed to be put away and given on a "want to know basis".
I am sorry I know this is not the answer you were looking for but Fr. Martin decided to go by what ever Georgeann said and her decision is that the material is not appropriate for a festival.  It is of course very appropriate for the RE classes and for the Right to Life month which is coming up soon.  You may want to try and schedule some time with Sr. Cecilia for age appropriate training at that time.

Prior to this decision, we had been told that we would be restricted severely in what we could display or distribute in the way of materials, even though there had been no such restriction at last years festival. Therefore, it is unlikely that we will even have a Respect Life booth this year since it will accomplish little with the restrictions placed on its use.

Is this true, the Diocese of Orange does not support Pro-Life functions or information ?
The Catholic Church, at a public function, on Catholic Church property,
can not show what we as Catholics are all about  ?
But selling books,  Jewelry  and kids toys of any kind is ok.

All church ministry will be working at some booth and represent there ministry by just being there,
Knights of Columbus, Ladies Knights, legion of Mary, Sisters Order, Lady of Guadalupe, Vietnamese Ladies. So maybe any one that represents a teaching opportunity should not be working the Festival ??

Check the Latest Finances information in the church bulletin
Looks like we getting a handle on the church finances,
the debt is going down and things are getting under control and new project are in the works
now we need to cut the expenses by at least 30 %
and get volunteers to help do some office work
reopen the office on the weekends.

I was recently told that the accounting numbers & information in this web site are wrong .
Well guess who's fault that is,
my only source of information I have is in the printed Annual Financial Report.
The explanation below is from the office.

The budget for 2008-2009 was prepared in the spring of 2008.  In spring, 2009, the diocese indicated that they would like to see an accrual for sick leave included in the annual report.   Based on the sick leave information given , the sick leave accrual totaled over $22,000, resulting in an increase in salaries expense.  Accruals are estimates of the cost of time off earned during the year but not yet used by the employee.  It is an end-of-year adjustment that is reversed at the beginning of the next fiscal year.  The employees are paid the sick leave in the following year when they have sick time.  However, if a new accrual isn’t anticipated in the budget, it causes a variance.  Taking the new accrual into account, salaries and benefits were actually a little less than what was budgeted.

This explanation was not in the printed report sent to the parish.

Auditing Dictionary of Terms

Examples include a basis of accounting required by a regulatory agency, ... If accounting methods are changed from period to period, the effects must be disclosed. .... It includes an explanation of the objectives of the procedures, ... www.ais-cpa.com/glosa.html

Changing your method of accounting. Once you have set up your accounting method, you must get IRS approval before you can change to another method. A change in accounting method not only includes a change in your overall system of accounting, but also a change in the treatment of any material item. For examples of changes that require approval and information on how to get approval for the change, see Publication 538.

ACCOUNTING PROBLEMS

Total visibility of all finance, a DETAILED audit, is required by all business
collecting public funds in America, including churches
The Church Fair MUST have total PUBLISHED accounting, available to anyone, of all money,
spent by each group or person and all money received by all groups or person
In the previous years NO clear accounting was ever made available to anyone.
This includes the most recent garage sale, and plans are being made to have another sale.
It is called MISMANAGEMENT of church funds.
If there is a total accounting of any church fair, I will gladly put a copy on this web site,
or it can be publish it in the church news letter or .ORG web site.

2008-2009 Financial report shows:
Actual Salaries and Benefits of $ 741,387 was over budget by $19,344.

SEE ABOVE STATEMENT
Offering and total support of $ 1,534,150 was up by $ 53,578.
If salaries had been cut by
7.5% or $ 54,422, from the 2009 budget amount,
that would produce an total extra $108,000 and will help pay off the church loan.
NO church in Orange County has more than 2 Maintenance men on staff,  we have 5,
All numbers can be verified in the 2008-2009  financial report, mailed by request
Which are now in question
THERE are NO Vietnamese, outside the primary office staff, on the payroll & they make up 60% of the parish.
We pay everyone to do anything in this church
We contract for services, at a higher prices, that so many people can do, if only asked. Years ago volunteers took care of the sound system, lights in the church, web site,  office computers, moving tables / chairs plus many repair jobs.
The request for more money while adding overhead with no efforts to cut spending & outside audit or accounting.

Did you know, a $ 10,000 gift was given to the Diocese WITHOUT finance committee knowledge, around  April 2009 ??
So many people, with endless talent to do ANY job in the church / office, as a ministry, yet this office continues to expand while other churches are cutting back. So much paid dancing & singing, while cost cutting in faith formation.
The management will not let volunteers do anything, except raise money for it's control.

SO QUIT HAVING MINISTRY FAIRS WHEN YOU KNOW YOUR NOT GOING TO ACCEPT ANYONE'S HELP.
