February 14 1st Sunday of Lent Today we approve our Candidates and Catechumens and send them to meet with our Bishop Tomorrow night when he will approve them to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil this year. 1st reading - Deuteronomy 26:4-10; Psalm 91:1-2, 10-15; 2nd reading Romans 10:8-13; Gospel Luke 4:1-13; We must let go our attachment to the things of this world [Lk 4:4], commit ourselves [Rom 10:9] and trust in the Lord [Ps 91] to rescue us as He did of old [Deut 26:6-10] | |
February 21 - 2nd Sunday of Lent -Today we join in the Penitential Rite (Scrutiny - see below) for our Candidates who, already one with us in baptism, now wish to join us in the full communion of the Catholic Church. 1st reading Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18; Psalm 27:1, 7-89, 13-14; 2nd reading Philippians 3:17 - 4:1; Gospel Luke 9:28-36. February 28 - 3rd Sunday of Lent -1st reading Exodus 3:1-8, 13-15; Psalm 103:1-4, 6-8, 11; 2nd reading 1 Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12; Gospel Luke 13:1-9. God reaches out to rescue His people [Ex 3:8], He pardons and heals them [Ps 103:3-4], yet we must accept His care if we are to benefit [1 Cor 10:5-6], we must bear spiritual fruit [Lk 13:6-9] or be cut down. | ||
SCRUTINIES Or the 1st Scrutiny of the Catechumens. - Jesus: The Water of Life -1st reading Exodus 17:3-7; Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9; 2nd reading Romans 5:1-2, 5-8; Gospel John 4:5-42. God supplied His people with water in the desert [Ex 17:6]. He cares for His sheep [Ps 95:7]. From Jesus we obtain all our needs [Rom 5:2] the Water of Life which quenches all thirst [Jn 4:14]. |
