CHRISTMASTIDE

January 1- BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, MOTHER of GOD [Solemnity]  1st reading Numbers 6:22-27; Psalm 67:2-3, 5-6, 8; 2nd reading Galatians 4:4-7 ; Gospel Luke 2:16-21. Let us join with Mary as she reflects on these things in her heart [Lk 2:18-19]: The nations exult [Ps 67:5-6]for the Lord blesses them [Num 6:24-26] God‘s Son, born of woman, rescues us [Gal 4:4-7]   For more see Saints 

 - The EPIPHANY of the LORD [Solemnity] By ancient custom for this solemnity, formerly celebrated on January 6, the dates of the movable feasts for the coming year may be solemnly proclaimed and calendars blessed and distributed.  1st reading Isaiah 60:1-6; Psalm 72:1-2, 7-8, 10-13; 2nd reading Ephesians 3:2-3, 5-6 ; Gospel Matthew 2:1-12. The Lord, revealed to the Jews through the shepherds is now revealed to the Gentiles through the Magi [Mt 2:1-2] as foretold in Scripture [Is 60:3, Ps 72:11] and celebrated by Saint Paul [Eph 3:6]

 - The Baptism of the Lord [Feast] concludes the Christmas season. [This feast always supplants the First Sunday of Ordinary Time. Ordinary time begins tomorrow.]-1st reading Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7; Psalm 29:1-4. 9-10; 2nd reading Acts of the Apostles10:34-38; Gospel Matthew 3:13-17.  At Jesus Baptism, God speaks [Mt 3:17] over the waters [Ps 29:3] to announce His Servant [Is 1-4] Who will call all to Him [Acts 10:34-35]    For more see web link

ORDINARY TIME

 - 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time 1st reading -Isaiah 49:3, 5-6; Psalm 40:2, 4, 7-10; 2nd reading 1 Corinthians 1:1-3; Gospel John 1:29-34. God spoke to John the Baptist [Jn 1:33] to announce the foretold servant [Is 49:6] Who will announce His justice [Ps 40:9] and call us all to follow [1 Cor1:2]

 - 3rd  Sunday in Ordinary Time.  1st reading Isaiah 8:23-9:3; Psalm 27:1, 4, 13-14; 2nd reading 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 17; Gospel Matthew 4:12-23  Jesus brought light to the world [Mt 4:16-17] as foretold by Is [9:1].  May we be united [1 Cor 1:10] under His protection [Ps 27:1]
