ORDINARY TIME II

June 7 - THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST [Solemnity]   -  1st reading  Exodus 24:3-8; Psalm  116:12-13, 15-18; 2nd reading    Hebrews 9:11-15;  Gospel  Mark 14:12-16, 22-26  Jesus Body and Blood are the sacrifice of the New Covenant [Mk 14:22-24] which were presaged by the sacrifice of Moses [Ex 24:5.8]  This is the more perfect sacrifice [Heb 9:12] which had been foretold [Ps 116:15]     For more see Corpus Christi and Precious Blood 

June 12 - THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS [Solemnity]  -  1st reading  Hosea 11:1, 3-4, 8-9; Psalm  Isaiah 12:2-6; 2nd reading  Ephesians 3:8-12, 14-19;  Gospel  John 19:31-37   We are blessed by the Blood which flowed from Jesus’ side [Jn 19:34]  It was the fountain of salvation [Is 12:3] which fulfilled God’s promise of forgiveness [Hos 11:9] through the love of Christ [Eph 3:19]    For more see web link

June 13 Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary -  1st reading  Isaiah 61:9-11; Psalm  1 Samuel 2:1, 4-5, 6-7, 8; Gospel  Luke 2:41-51 Hannah rejoiced in the birth of her son Samuel who would bring blessings to Israel [1 Sam 2:1-10] and Isaiah prophesied the coming of a greater redeemer [ Is 61].  Mary pondered these things in her heart as she oversaw the growth of Jesus the object of these foretellings [Lk 2:51]   In the midst of the second world war Pope Pius XII put the whole world under the special protection of our Savior's Mother by consecrating it to her Immaculate Heart, and in 1944 he decreed that in the future the whole Church should celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. … See Web link [http://www.catholicculture.org/culture/liturgicalyear/calendar/day.cfm?id=390 ]  

June 14 - 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time. 1st reading Ezekiel 17:22-24; Psalm 92:2-3, 13-14, 15-16; 2nd reading 2 Corinthians 5:6-10; Gospel Mark 4:26-34  We praise God [Ps 92: 2-3] for His promised Kingdom [Ezech  3:22-24].  We wait in hope {2 Cor 5:6-10]  as it grows silently in our midst. June 21 - 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time. 1st reading Job 38:1, 8-11; Psalm 107:23-26, 28-31; 2nd reading 2 Corinthians 5:14-17; Gospel Mark 4:35-41 The ocean, like Death, too mighty for man [Ps 107:25-27] is controlled only by its Creator [Job 38:8-11], Jesus, Whose rescue of the apostles [Mark 4:37-41] prefigures His rescue of us from death [2 Cor 5:14-15]

 

June 24 - BIRTH OF JOHN THE BAPTIST [Solemnity]  1st reading  Isaiah 49:1-6; Psalm  139:1-3, 13-15; 2nd reading  Acts 13:22-26;  Gospel  Luke 1:57-66, 80   What indeed will this child turn out to be? [Luke 1:66] chosen from the womb [Ps 139 13-15] as the Lord’s servant [Is 49:1-6] he completes the preparation of Israel for the arrival of the Christ/Messiah [Acts 13:22-26]  For more see the Saints Calendar  

June  28 - 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time. 1st reading Wisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24; Psalm 30:2, 4-6, 11-13; 2nd reading 2 Corinthians 8:7, 9, 13-15; Gospel Mark 5:21-43  God created the world good, but sin and satan brought sickness and death [Wis 2:23-24]  Jesu brought healing and life [Mk 5:21-43] as promised [Ps 30:11-13] and calls us to ease the pains of our brothers [2 Cor 8:14-15]

 

 

June 29 - PETER AND PAUL, APOSTLES  [Solemnity]  -  1st reading  Acts 12:1-11; Psalm  34:2-9; 2nd reading  2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18;  Gospel  Matthew 16:13-19   These first leaders proclaimed Jesus the Messiah, the son of God [Mt 16: 17] in the face of the threat of death [Acts 12:2-3 & 2Tim 4:17-18], trusting in God’s care [Ps 34:4]   For more see the Saints Calendar
